POSITION: Group Financial Accountant

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
An opportunity exists in the Corporate Finance Team to assist in the daily, monthly and annual accounting and administration function of the Verso Group of Companies.

Key performance areas
Management of junior accountant and other staff, should more be employed;
Managing 10+ cashbooks, 8+ call/fixed deposits with 3 different banks for 10+ companies within the group;
To review journals, perform and/or review accounts receivable/accounts payable/general ledger accounts reconciliations and liaise with all relevant stakeholders to ensure accurate and complete accounting records from source documentation through to Financial Statements;
To review trial balance of each group company on monthly basis and perform necessary tasks to ensure completeness and accuracy thereof;
To support the finance department through liaising with other departments, divisions and companies within the group to ensure the accuracy of financial information and intercompany charges;
To collect, process and record financial information to support management with accurate financial information to assist in their decision making processes and to contribute to the correct reporting of financial information in an acceptable format;
To assist with the budgeting process through sending out budgets and assisting with queries from the relevant responsible persons and collating all budget information received back from various sources;
To manage the month-end process by processing all necessary journals in a timeous manner;
To review monthly invoicing to ensure completeness and accuracy of fee income and allocation of commission income;
To update standard office manuals/procedures relating to their accounting functions to assist with transparency and succession;
To perform relevant duties during the year-end process, which includes assistance to the Group Financial Manager, to ensure accurate, complete and relevant information is provided to the external auditors;
Assist with CIPC requirements such as Annual Returns – process on CIPC and allocate payment;
Assist with tax compliance including on SARS – calculation and completion of monthly VAT returns and review of Statement of Account, monthly EMP returns and review of Statement of Account, Provisional Tax returns bi-annually and Income Tax returns annually; Dividends Tax returns completion as and when required;
Assist with Tax – calculation of provisional tax, income tax for review by Group Financial Manager;
Monthly VAT review of accounts, processing of various journals, output VAT reconciliation and relevant schedules;
Assit with monthly payroll reconciliations, providing information to the parties involved (Medical Aid, Group Life, etc), reviewing of the payroll report provided with possibility of running the Payroll in-house in the foreseeable future;
Special projects including but not limited to - Fixed assets audit; Change of system to cost centre accounting (Phase 1 until finalisation);
Monthly review and checking of all intercompany transactions ensuring transactions are accounted for and costs are shared where required;
Other ad hoc duties assigned by the Group Financial Manager, Group Financial Director or ExCo.

Qualifications
Matric with strong mathematical and accounting abilities
B Degree / diploma (financial accounting, management accounting) or equivalent
SAIPA articles or qualification would be beneficial
Group accounting experience
3 years experience in a similar role

TECHNOLOGY
Extensive practical experience on Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel (Advanced), PowerPoint)
Accpac (intermediate) or similar accounting package

REMUNERATION
A total cost to company market related salary structure including benefits are offered.
